So, with the winter of 2021 drawing near, here is an ode to love: a special marriage proposal photoshoot in Bordeaux.

Hardik and Nisha are proof that love lives through all four seasons.

An Original Proposal at the Start of Winter

Bordeaux is not the city best known as the City of Love. Paris is famous for its many romantic spots, but the "Sleeping Beauty", as Bordeaux is nicknamed, has nothing to be ashamed of.

It is true that I am rarely asked to photograph a marriage proposal in Bordeaux. Even so, I find our historic heritage an inspiring backdrop for two people in love who are ready to take the plunge.

And surprisingly, winter, when you least expect it, adds an elegant, romantic touch to a proposal.

That was the case with the photos of Hardik’s proposal to his partner Nisha.

It was the end of November, yet the couple lit up a grey, cloudy Bordeaux sky that day.

Being the Photographer of a Surprise Proposal in Bordeaux: A Real Secret Mission

Being both the photographer and the accomplice of a surprise proposal is no easy task. But I can assure you I had great fun!

I loved being in on the secret with the future fiancé! It is exciting and stressful at the same time. You clearly have no control over the moment itself when the bride-to-be arrives.

Hardik and I spent hours talking about his plan, his beautiful and unexpected surprise! Each time the organisation moved forward and the big day drew closer, we both felt a thrill of excitement. We were like two children hatching a plan.

On 24 November 2021, I am hiding in the shadows. I am both a spectator of, and an assistant in, this little scheme rehearsed for months. The emotion is palpable on my side too, even though I try to hide it. I am behind my camera, my eye pressed to the viewfinder, my framing ready. All I have to do is let the magic happen and capture the moment.

Isn’t it unusual to be contacted from the United States about a marriage proposal photoshoot... in Bordeaux?

And yet, that is exactly what happened to me!

I must admit that, as a wedding photographer in Bordeaux, I am always pleasantly surprised and truly honoured to take on this kind of photo project.

Many Americans love coming to France for a trip. Some of them travel all the way to the south-west to discover Bordeaux and the surrounding area.

For me, nothing is more rewarding than showcasing a couple from another country with a photoshoot in the characteristic streets of my city!

My first conversation with Hardik

Hardik, an American living in Chicago, explained that he wanted to propose to his other half in an iconic spot in our city.

So I suggested Place de la Bourse and gave him a few pointers on where to stand and which way to face, so that he would have the most beautiful light and Nisha would not notice me until the proposal! What a wonderful surprise it was for her!

Afterwards, we strolled through old Bordeaux and along the Promenade Sainte-Catherine. To end this lovely day, we took a few photos at their hotel. They had chosen the Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux, and we used its rooftop terrace, reserved exclusively for the occasion.

They were over the moon after this day devoted to romance, and so was I!
