A Fairy-Tale Wedding at Château d'Agassac, in the Haut-Médoc

Justine and David celebrated their wedding at Château d’Agassac, in the Haut-Médoc, in September 2019, and trusted me with their wedding photos. I am delighted to share this beautiful wedding day in the Gironde with you.

Château d’Agassac: Pure Romance

Château d’Agassac stands in the Gironde, in the village of Ludon-Médoc. It is easy to reach by car and close to Bordeaux.

This wine estate of 43 hectares of vines is known for its exceptional, highly rated and award-winning wines. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are the grape varieties of the Haut-Médoc terroir.

Alongside its winemaking, Château d’Agassac hosts family celebrations such as weddings. The château is truly magnificent: the first time I saw it, I immediately thought of a princess’s castle. With its moat and its towers, you feel as if you have stepped into a real fairy tale. I found it beautiful and deeply romantic.

The Reception Hall at Château d’Agassac

Justine and David chose the ideal place to celebrate their wedding and welcome their guests. The reception hall for the evening, "Le Chai", can host 277 guests and is a lovely space. Its Bordeaux stone walls have been restored to give the room a contemporary, modern feel, and the view over the park and the vines is absolutely incredible.

Meeting the couple: a bouquet passed on

Justine, the bride, had been a guest at her friend Johanna’s wedding, and she was the one who caught the bride’s bouquet! The funny thing is that I was there too, as the photographer of Johanna and Alexandre’s wedding.

So it was meant to be: Justine and David were planning to get married.

To my great surprise, Justine decided to book me as the official photographer of her wedding in September 2019. It was love at first sight.

I discovered a sensitive, slightly shy young woman. Justine had burst with joy when her friend Johanna’s bouquet landed in her hands, and that day I understood how gentle and kind she was.

A Fine Art Couple Session

With the newlyweds, we made the most of the magnificent park of Château d’Agassac for a series of couple portraits.

Even then, I was strongly drawn to Fine Art photography, and it made me want to photograph the newlyweds with my film camera. The feel of the camera, the rendering and the way it handles light are a little different. Yet the emotion it carries stays intact, always so pure and natural.

I took Justine and David with me into simple scenes, always taking care to show them at their best and to put their love and tenderness at the centre of my frame.

The couple’s wedding car was the same as their friends Johanna and Alexandre’s: a purring Renault 4CV nicknamed "Papy Marcel", which had belonged to Johanna’s grandfather. And it was Johanna herself, heavily pregnant with her first child at the time, who drove it on Justine and David’s wedding day!
