Getting Married in the Médoc at Domaine de Cordet

It’s true: when you start planning a wedding in the Gironde, you often picture getting married in Bordeaux. You think of a Bordeaux wine estate, or of Arcachon Bay.

But the region also has other hidden gems for a wedding!

The Médoc is admittedly a little off the beaten track from the Bordeaux metropolitan area. Yet it remains a special place, with the ocean and nature close at hand.

Just like Élise and Jérôme, you would love bringing your families together in the Médoc for the most beautiful day of your life!

And then there is Domaine de Cordet, which promises every couple and their families a moment in a superb natural setting.

At Domaine de Cordet, the lush vegetation invites calm and the gentle art of living. Your families, gathered around your happiness, will enjoy a unique day, lulled by birdsong.

The century-old trees of the 3-hectare park make you feel sheltered, a little as if you were in a cocoon. What could be more reassuring than feeling loved both by your nearest and dearest and by the living world around you? There is no better atmosphere to strengthen your bonds and welcome all the love that surrounds you.

As well as a vast expanse of greenery, the estate is home to the Lac de Cordet, which you reach along a path. Everything is there for you to feel at peace!

Once the sun has set, it’s time for the wedding party! A special structure can be set up in the estate’s park for outdoor wedding dinners. Enjoy the good things in life in the heart of nature!

A Wedding Day in the Médoc

I already knew Élise and Jérôme: in May 2020, before their wedding, I photographed their couple photoshoot at Cap Ferret.

For their wedding, Élise and Jérôme chose a civil ceremony and a religious ceremony on the same day.

First, the preparations took place at Élise’s parents’ house. That morning, the day already promised to be a summery one!

The bride and groom got ready in Soulac-sur-Mer. To begin this beautiful sunny day, we went to Soulac-sur-Mer Town Hall, then to the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Fin-des-Terres, also known as "the basilica under the sands".

As you will have gathered, the wedding day then continued at Domaine de Cordet with the drinks reception. Élise and Jérôme’s evening party was held in the estate’s largest room.

At the end of the evening, as night fell: surprise! A fireworks display lit up the sky to bring this beautiful, romantic day to a close.

The basilica under the sands

Local people have called it that for generations, because this church has weathered many Atlantic storms over the centuries. These winter storms pushed the dunes inland, so the basilica was buried up to its foundations time and time again. Despite work to consolidate its structure, by the 19th century the basilica had fallen completely into ruin, and its restoration followed.

The basilica became a listed historic monument in 1891 and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998, as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela.

Post-Wedding Couple Photos at Parc Majolan

The newlyweds wanted to trust me with their couple photos too, and I was delighted to follow them from their wedding ceremony to their most personal pictures.

A month after their wedding, Élise and Jérôme met me at Parc Majolan in Blanquefort, just a stone’s throw from Bordeaux.

If you have not yet had the chance to discover this park, it is truly exceptional. One of a kind, Parc Majolan is home to rich biodiversity and abundant nature.

Taking couple photos in this park is pure joy for a wedding photographer like me! The tall, wild grasses and their little pink flowers are perfect for a soft, romantic setting, and perfect for my Fine Art style photos too ;)

That day, the light in the park was perfect because it was diffused, which gives photos a soft, natural atmosphere. The shades of green of the different plants add texture to my pictures, as well as contrast to bring Élise and Jérôme into the light.

For the occasion, Élise put her wedding dress back on, and Jérôme his wedding suit.

Élise carried a lovely bouquet by Amarillys in pink tones that matched the flowers of the park (without knowing it).

So we kept to this floral, countryside note, which the newlyweds wanted to respect from start to finish!
